The Topcon level head is the main functional part of an auto level instrument used in surveying and construction. It contains the telescope, compensator, and horizontal circle, which work together to help the surveyor take accurate height (level) measurements across a site. How It Works: The telescope allows the user to clearly see the leveling staff at a distance. The compensator (a magnetic-damped device) keeps the line of sight perfectly level, even if the instrument isn’t perfectly horizontal.
