Each layer is then compacted using the tamping rod. The number of strokes per layer depends on the cube size (e.g., 45 strokes for a 150x150x150mm cube and 20 strokes for a 100x100x100mm cube). The rod should penetrate the current layer and slightly into the previous one, but not forcibly strike the bottom of the mould. Care is taken to ensure even compaction across the entire surface and especially in the corners of the mould.
