Super Napier (Pakchong 1)

Super Napier (Pakchong 1) is a Hybrid Napier Grass obtained by crossing ordinary napier (pennisetum purpureum) and Pearl Millet ( Pennisetum glaucam) developed in Thailand,by Dr Krailas Kiyothong-animal nutritionist and plant breeder from Department of Livestock development. Has the below key qualities 1.Pakchong 1 Super Napier is the only variety in kenya giving highest crude protein (16 -18%).Our lab tests in February 2021 showed 17.2 ,% of crude protein. 3 200 Tons per acre per year means a dairy farmer can easily rear 15 cows in one acre of land. 4 Farmers can save huge money because of high protein content (16 - 18 ) 5 Highly suitable for silage with no need to add any additives while making silage due to its water soluble carbohydrates (WSC)18 7.It could be ratooned-.Once established in the field,it grows after each cutting. 9. Pakchong 1 produces 7 to 8 cuttings per year and 50 to 60 tons per cutting depending on soil conditions.
