A retinoscope is a handheld optical instrument used by eye care professionals to objectively measure the refractive power of the eye, determining myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism by analyzing the "red reflex" reflected from the retina. It projects a light beam into the pupil and is particularly essential for assessing infants, children, or non-verbal patients.
