Kinematic Viscosity

Product Description
Asphalt Production and Pavement Construction
Binder-Aggregate Interaction: In asphalt mixtures, bitumen (asphalt binder) is used to coat the aggregates. The kinematic viscosity of the binder at different temperatures is critical because it determines how easily the bitumen can coat the aggregates. If the viscosity is too high (the binder is too thick), it won’t flow well to form an even coating around the aggregate. If it’s too low (too fluid), it may fail to bind the aggregate effectively.
Temperature Dependence: During asphalt paving, the temperature is a key factor, and bitumen viscosity changes with temperature. Hot-mix asphalt, for example, is produced and laid at elevated temperatures to ensure that the binder has a low enough viscosity to properly coat the aggregate particles.
