Jejunostomy Tube

A jejunostomy tube (J-tube) is a soft plastic tube inserted surgically through the abdomen directly into the jejunum, the middle part of the small intestine. Its primary purpose is to provide a route for delivering liquid nutrition, fluids, and medication directly into the small intestine for patients who cannot eat or swallow adequately. The tube bypasses the stomach, which is useful for patients with conditions that make stomach feeding impossible, such as certain gastric cancers or issues with stomach emptying.
