The power amplifier is designed to send audio out to however many speakers the amplifier was designed for. The crossover is a circuit built into a speaker cabinet, to split the audio frequencies going to each driver (speaker) in the speaker cabinet to optimize each type of driver design (tweeter, midrange, or bass).
