It provides sound impact reduction and acts as a moisture barrier, protecting the floor from vapor and moisture damage. It's commonly used under wooden laminates and offers insulation to reduce heat loss. Available in various thicknesses, such as 2mm, and often comes with one-sided aluminum for enhanced moisture protection.
