Ear Notcher

An ear notcher is a tool used primarily in livestock farming for identification purposes. It is commonly used on pigs, though it can be used on other animals as well. The tool creates small, distinctive notches in the ears of the animal, with the notches' location and number serving as a unique identification system for individual animals or groups within a herd. This practice allows farmers to track breeding, health records, and other important information about their livestock. The pattern of notches typically follows a specific code or numbering system that is standardized on the farm
