Product Description
Spiral or Helical Blade: The most recognizable feature is the corkscrew-like blade or bit. This helical design is a key innovation. As the auger is twisted into the ground or wood, the spiraling blade lifts the excavated material (soil, wood shavings, etc.) up and out of the hole, preventing it from getting clogged and allowing for continuous drilling.
T-Handle or Crossbar: The top of the auger was typically fitted with a simple handle, often a horizontal crossbar (T-handle), that the user would grip with both hands to apply downward pressure and rotational force. This design maximized the leverage the user could apply.
