The full-cell sensors have a large surface area for the alcohol particles to hit, consequently detecting a larger electrical current. The larger the sensor the more accurate the results. Used in active or passive modes to fit any testing situations. The active mode is whereby the subject participates by blowing into the cone of the instrument where a sample of breath is collected for analysis while in the passive mode, the operator places the cone in a space of air where alcohol may be present. The passive mode makes it easier to sample a participant who is not cooperating. No mouthpiece is needed on the breather.
